KEYNOTE

JILL YERSAK

Dr. Jill Yersak, Senior Director, Mission Strategy, joined The ALS Association in October 2015. In her role, she supports the coordination and integration of mission activity that spans care services, research, and advocacy. This includes strategic planning, performance measurement, and program development. She is also responsible for communicating ALS research in an accessible way by developing and maintaining research information tailored to people living with ALS, their caregivers and loved ones, donors, and to scientific audiences. She also supports both ALS Association National and Chapters in all departments with research information needs, including donor outreach.

In the past year, Dr. Yersak helped develop and successfully implement two new mission programs. She created ALS Focus, a survey platform that will empirically assess people with ALS and their caregivers. She also led efforts to launch the Association’s ALS Roundtable program to convene our stakeholders to inform the Association’s mission’s strategic planning. She collaborated with Development and multiple stakeholders to raise the funds to support these programs.

Dr. Yersak received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. She then went onto complete her Ph.D. at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Anne Hart at Brown University in the Neuroscience department where she spearheaded an ALS research project in C. elegans models (microscopic worms). During her time as a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Yersak volunteered at the local ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic where she worked closely with people living with ALS and their caregivers, along with the multidisciplinary team and local Rhode Island Chapter of the Association.

BENEFITTING

The ALS Association, Iowa Chapter

Back by popular demand, The Legacy Social will be a casual evening filled with food + cocktails, silent + live auction and mixing + mingling to fight ALS.

Our Annual Golf Classic is in memory of Michael R. Myers, an entrepreneur who dedicated his life to building and growing communities in Iowa. Mike was passionate about giving back to the community, and when he was diagnosed with ALS in 1996, this passion took the form of helping others struggling with this horrible disease. Though Mike passed away in 2006, his desire to support those battling ALS and support research to find a cure lives on through the Michael R Myers Memorial Legacy Social & Golf Classic.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

In the past 3 years, due to overwhelming kindness and generosity, our event raised nearly $300,000 for the direct benefit of The ALS Association, Iowa Chapter. Our 2019 goal is to raise $150,000 via Sponsorships, Social Tables, Golf Foursomes, Silent + Live Auction Sales, 50/50 Raffle Tickets, Mulligans, Hole Entertainment and the Infamous Ice Bucket Challenge.

The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS.
It covers all the bases - research, care services, public education, and advocacy - providing help and hope to those facing the disease. The Iowa Chapter serves this vision by raising funds to provide local care services and support national ALS research and advocacy efforts.
